On January 23, 2025, the competition for members of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Ivano-Frankivsk region took place online. It was the 2nd stage of a national-wide competition for the defense of scientific research papers by lyceum students. The participants competed in four sections: (1) General and Inorganic Chemistry, (2) Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, (3) Agronomy, and (4) Livestock Product Technology and Veterinary Medicine.
Viktoriia Kolomiiets, a lyceum student in the 11th grade of Kalush lyceum No. 2, won the first prize in the organic chemistry and biochemistry section with her paper “Extraction and study of the composition of biologically active substances squalene and squalane from amaranth”. The work was carried out under the supervision of Liubov Gavryliuk, a chemistry teacher of Kalush lyceum No. 2, and a scientific consultant Prof. Serhii Kurta from the Chemistry Department of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University.
