On November 6, as part of the grant project “Monitoring of Environmental Objects in the Context of European Integration,” supported by the EU, Associate Professor Sofia Fedorchenko from the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of PNU shared up-to-date information with first-year students of the DO group on climate change, particularly focusing on the impact of greenhouse gas emissions on the global rise in atmospheric air temperature.

The students were struck by the fact that 175 million tons of additional greenhouse gases have been emitted as a result of military actions during Russia’s war in Ukraine, causing climate damage to the planet estimated at €32 billion over two years of war. Additionally, the students were introduced to instruments for rapid air analysis in residential and workplace environments, including gas analyzers-detectors for CO₂ and CO.

We hope that such meetings between project implementers and students will contribute to achieving the project’s main objectives: promoting European environmental principles, fostering environmentally conscious and responsible youth, enhancing public environmental awareness, and encouraging the understanding of citizens’ environmental rights and responsibilities.
