Open lecture for 11th grade students of the Ivan Pulyuy Scientific Natural and Mathematical Lyceum in Ivano-Frankivsk

An online lecture titled “The Impact of Russian Aggression on the Environment and Climate” was delivered to 11th-grade students from the Ivan Pulyuy Lyceum of Science and Mathematics in Ivano-Frankivsk by Associate Professor of Chemistry Sofia Fedorchenko. The event was organized as part of the EU Erasmus+ grant project “Monitoring of Environmental Objects in the Context of European Integration” (No. 101127251-МЕОЕU-ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH).

The lecture addressed the triple threat facing humanity: environmental pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss — all of which have been intensified by the war in Ukraine. Students learned about the scale of the humanitarian and environmental crisis caused by the Russian invasion, including the destruction of infrastructure and widespread air, water, and soil contamination — consequences that may constitute acts of ecocide.

The session helped students understand that war affects not only human lives, but also causes profound and often irreversible damage to nature and climate stability.
