Open lecture for 11th grade students of the Ivan Puluj Scientific Natural and Mathematical Lyceum in Ivano-Frankivsk

For 11th grade students from the Ivan Puluj Lyceum of Science and Mathematics in Ivano-Frankivsk, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry Sofia Fedorchenko held an online lecture on the topic “Climate and Environmental Studies of Russia’s War against Ukraine” within the framework of the faculty course “Monitoring of Environmental Objects in the Context of European Integration” as part of the implementation of the EU Erasmus+ grant project “Monitoring of Environmental Objects in the Context of European Integration” No. 101127251-МЕОЕУ-ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH.

The lecture addressed the triple threat facing humanity: environmental pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss — all of which have been intensified by the war in Ukraine. Students learned about the scale of the humanitarian and environmental crisis caused by the Russian invasion, including the destruction of infrastructure and widespread air, water, and soil contamination — consequences that may constitute acts of ecocide.

The session helped students understand that war affects not only human lives, but also causes profound and often irreversible damage to nature and climate stability.
