On April 10, first-year Environmental Science students from the Department of Biology and Ecology, Faculty of Natural Sciences at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, visited the Department of Chemistry. The visit was part of the EU Erasmus+ international technical assistance project “Monitoring of Environmental Objects in the Context of European Integration”.
Chemistry faculty members shared insights into their field, emphasizing the interdisciplinary connection between chemistry and ecology and the importance of collaboration in addressing environmental challenges.
Students explored Ukrainian online platforms for monitoring air quality and other environmental parameters. Particular attention was paid to the international Air Quality Index (AQI) and the Ukrainian equivalent (UAQI), developed by environmental NGOs, as essential tools for assessing air cleanliness.
The most engaging part of the event was the practical ecoanalytical workshop. Future ecologists conducted hands-on experiments—identifying heavy metal cations, quantifying sulfate ions in water and soil, and operating express air quality analyzers.
The event provided valuable practical experience and highlighted the vital role of interdisciplinary cooperation in solving environmental problems.
